GundrukVillage; nature and culture together...

situated at the top of the hill on Sunkoshi river Bank in north central Nepal, is an exotic pristine village endowed with an unparallel scenic grandeur and a home to typical Nepelese cultural food product Gundruk. Gundruk is particularly popular in Nepal. Gundruk is obtained from the fermentation of leafy vegetables. It is served as a side dish with the main meal and is also used as an appetizer. Gundruk is an important source of minerals particularly during the off-season when the diet consists of mostly starchy tubers and maize which tend to be low in minerals.

It lies at north of Sindhupalchok district in the close proximity of GundrukVillage at the top of Chuli Peak at an altitude of 2000 meters. The approach to Gundruk Village is a wonderful experience in itself as it goes crossing over the Indrawati, Sunkoshi, Bhotekoshi rivers; passing through rhododendrons blossoming along the way amidst the chirping of birds and wild insects. The Hiking route passes through high hill peaks and villages and impressive waterfalls. Nearby TamaKhani (Copper mine used by ancestor to extract the Copper ) and Khagre Cave add new dimension to these attractions. Gundruk Village is model villages for experiencing the typical culture and lifestyle of the Rural Nepali people. Traditional customs are still followed during births, deaths, marriages and at other important times in a person`s life. Age-old cultural dances like the Jhyaure, Serka, Dohori, Krishna Charitra and Jhakri are performed on various occasions accompanied by different musical instruments with the dancers in traditional dress.

Craftsmen produce a whole range of different products from bamboo.

Promoting local product for better livelihood.


Gundruk village is a naturally and culturally beautiful village of Sindhupalchok Nepal. Which is specially renowned for Gundruk. Gundruk is a fermented and dried vegetable product. It is produced by shredding the leaves of mustard, radish and cauliflower leaves and placing them in an earthenware pot to ferment. After five to seven days the leaves are removed and dried.
